On the first day of camp, campers get to know each other and their counselors by playing theater games and ice breakers, but will quickly be practicing their show materials for auditions that same day. The next day, campers will receive their roles and rehearsals begin! Over the next week and a half, our campers have two daily rehearsals to prepare for their final performance that they've been working toward since day one of camp!
11:00 SHOW
The 11:00 show is our daily talent show after snack in the morning. This is the time for campers to show what they've got! Whether it's a dazzling solo, a dramatic monologue, a dance routine with friends, baton twirling, magic shows, piano, guitar, drums, gymnast routine, or improv, you'll have a blast watching and performing with your fellow campers.
Spirit Days
Four times a session, DRT has dress-up spirit days that all the campers (and counselors) go all-out for! Past spirit days have included Beach day, Disney/Super Hero Day, Wacky Wednesday, PJ Day, Rockstar day, and of course color day!
WORKSHOPS
Workshops are designed to give campers the chance to explore a new aspect of theater during the camp day. Campers participate in two workshops each session, choosing from several options. Past workshops include: Improv, Musical Theatre Dance, Voice, Set Design, Audition Training, Puppetry, and Scriptwriting. Each year our different counselors have something new to bring to DRT; the possibilities are endless!
PERFORMANCES
Campers show off their hard work in a fully-produced musical at the end of each camp session! A, B, and C casts perform on the last Friday night of camp. Parents and friends are invited to attend this night admission-free to support their kids and fellow camp performers!
OUTDOOR GAMES
Every day, campers participate in all different types of outdoor games! From a myriad of types of dodgeball, to Robot Santa, Octopus, Kickball, and Capture the Flag, your child will surely have a blast on the Derryfield School's turf field. And who wouldn't love a freeze pop to cool down... EVERY DAY!
Food
This year, once again your registration includes daily lunch for all campers made fresh in Derryfield's Dining Commons.
a colorful competition
Campers are sorted into color teams, separate from their casts. Campers get the chance to meet kids of all ages and compete for the Camp Champ Cup! Campers earn points for kindness, hard work, and spirit-day costume competitions
Derryfield Repertory Theatre is dedicated to inspiring young students to become involved in many forms of theatre arts. Throughout the day, DRT counselors educate and train campers in the areas of drama, music, dance, improvisation, and many other theatrical activities. Campers participate in a whirlwind two weeks of hands-on theatrical classes and workshops, along with rehearsing for a final showcase production. Campers are given the opportunity and confidence to express themselves creatively both on and offstage. Campers learn how to work together as a group to put on a final show at the end of their session. Each child gets encouragement to flourish as a performer, a student, and an artist.
